How to Build a Strong City Defense
Make your city a target nobody wants to attack. Learn how to layer walls, traps, and turrets, garrison the right troops, and protect your resources from raids.
The best defense in a kingdom-war game isn’t winning every fight — it’s making yourself a target nobody wants to attack. A city that costs more to raid than it’s worth gets left alone. Here’s how to build one.
Layer your defenses
Strong defense is layered, not a single wall. Each layer makes an attacker pay more:
- ▸Walls — your first barrier; the higher the level, the more an attacker must break through.
- ▸Traps — punish the first wave and thin out attacking armies before they reach your troops.
- ▸Turrets / defensive structures — deal ranged damage to incoming forces.
- ▸A garrison — durable infantry that absorb the assault, ideally reinforced by your alliance.
Garrison the right troops
Tanky infantry make the best garrison — they soak damage and trip nothing of yours. Backed by ranged units on the walls, they turn an easy raid into an expensive fight. For the unit roles, see the troop composition guide.
Protect your resources
Don’t look like easy prey
- ▸Don’t leave your army idle and visible — troops away or reinforcing survive surprise hits.
- ▸Stay near your alliance so reinforcements turn you from prey into a trap.
- ▸Defend against the common threats — see how to counter cavalry.
The bottom line
Layer your walls, traps, and turrets; garrison tanky troops; protect your loot; and lean on your alliance. Do that, and attackers will scroll right past you to an easier mark.
Frequently Asked Questions
Layer your defenses: upgrade walls, traps, and turrets; garrison durable infantry; keep a protected resource reserve so raids net little; and stay near your alliance for fast reinforcement. A well-defended city makes attackers look elsewhere.
